When Shinobu spoke to Rui's sister, the demon girl first tried to attack her. Then she felt Shinobu's strength and began begging him to let her go. Shinobu asked Rui's sister how many people she had eaten so far. The demon girl replied "5", but Shinobu said that was a lie. She said, "You must have eaten at least 80 people to your power," and suggested, "I'll let you go, but you'll have to pay for what you did."

After fighting Rui's family, Tanjiro and other Demon Slayers went to Cho Yashiki, Shinobu's house, for medical treatment and training. One night, Tanjiro was meditating on Cho Yashiki's rooftop and Shinobu came to talk to him. Tanjiro asked her if she was angry. He said he could smell her anger all the time, although she always kept the smile on her face. She admitted she was angry since her sister was killed by a demon.
His sister had a kind mind like Tanjiro and sympathized with demons all the time. He felt sorry for them even as he lay dying. Shinobu couldn't feel that way, but he thought he should follow his sister's thoughts. She was trying to find a way not to have to kill pity demons and keep the smile on her face that her sister liked. And she said, "But I'm getting a little tired," and told Tanjiro that she was relieved to see that he was working hard too. Shinobu is a good person, but he also has tragedy in his heart like other Slayers. After she left, Tanjiro told himself that he should train harder.

Shinobu was already mortally wounded, but he didn't give up and kept attacking him. As he gave her another shove, she recalled when Tanjiro had asked her if she was angry on Cho Yashiki's rooftop. She mentally answered his question again, realizing the reason for facing the demons again: to save lives and not take more victims like Shinobu. Then she focused her attention on the enemy in front of her. I think Shinobu has been hiding the truth since she lost her sister. She would pretend and act like her sister, whom she respected and wanted to be. But in the final fight for her (she knew she wouldn't survive) she revealed herself, her anger against the demons and that made her so strong and brave.

Unfortunately, Shinobu was taken to Doma and his student Kanawo came to meet him. Kanawo's anger reached its peak and they engaged in a bitter battle. Fighting alongside Inosuke Hashibira, who happened to come to the battlefield, they finally cut off the demon's head. In the afterlife, Shinobu was waiting for Doma. He had already lost his body and only his head was in Shinobu's hand and they talked for a bit. He said he knew someone would take his will and cut off Doma's head. Suddenly he blushed and told her he was in love with her and asked her to go to hell together. That line was her reply to him. Doma has been an emotionless human since he was human and it was the first time he felt emotion, which was love for Shinobu. But of course she declined his offer and said the phrase with a divine smile. It was his best moment!
The main theme of Demon Slayer is to nullify the will of humans. Like other victims of the demons, Shinobu had a hard time, but he took his sister's will and gave it to his disciple. I believe his soul is saved and he rests in peace.
